okay, so i'm bad at html and i'm new to making my blog accessible. i want to put a "gadget" on the sidebar of my blog with a textbox that allows people to make suggestions without emailing me. i can't figure out how yet. so please, if you have any suggestions for blindfold activities, or for how to add a text box to my sidebar, please enter them in the comments here, or on any other post.

autobiographical "information"
i am scott, and this is my little sensory project. i will be blindfolding myself for a period of time everyday, and interacting with various media, phenomena, and physical, sensible objects.
over the years, while engaging with corporeal feminist philosophy, i have become convinced that western philosophy, science, art, and even existence has privileged the sense of sight over all other senses. in focusing so much on appearance and looking, we not only dull our other senses, but - i believe - devolve. we become less than human, adhering to simple, boring, easily-identifiable visual categories. when we ignore our other senses, we split our minds from our bodies, we desensitize our bodies, we lose our bodies. this makes things simply less exciting than they could be when we are listening to music or our friends, tasting food or other strange things, smelling flowers, shit, or lovers, touching fabrics, animals, people, ourselves. it makes sexuality less enjoyable. and, i believe, it will one day make us extraordinarily vulnerable in an evolutionary sense (though this may already be the case).
i am not claiming that western science and philosophy are "wrong." if you are looking for writers that have already discussed these topics, please see luce irigaray, elizabeth grosz, and several others. please send me a message if you want to know more.

this blog is currently a project for a course i am taking with professor treaandrea russworm, called black popular culture. i will be engaging for the next few months mostly with subject matter inspired by that course.
